Dr. Richard Thornton – Chairman & CEO

As co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer at MagneMotion, Dr. Richard Thornton contributes to the technical and business development of the company as well as the electro-magnetic designs of new products and processes. Dr. Thornton has more than forty years of experience as a professor and researcher in areas of magnetic levitation (maglev), linear motor propulsion, electro-mechanical systems and semiconductor devices. Prior to founding MagneMotion, Dr. Thornton was professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Since 1988, Dr. Thornton has worked on new ideas for maglev transportation systems and created an interdepartmental MIT team that initiated long-term maglev research activities in all phases of maglev system design. Dr. Thornton is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) and is an author or co-author of 15 patents, primarily in the fields of linear motors and maglev. Dr. Thornton earned his B.S. in electrical engineering from Princeton University and both his S.M. and Sc.D. in electrical engineering from MIT.

Todd Webber – President & COO

As president and chief operating officer at MagneMotion, Todd Webber is responsible for all daily operations and strategic initiatives centered on new business development, licensing agreements, investor relations, and technology commercialization. Additionally, Mr. Webber is one of MagneMotion's co-founders and serves as a company director. Mr. Webber has more than 20 years of experience in the electro-magnetic, systems integration and software industries. Prior to co-founding MagneMotion, Mr. Webber held senior management positions in finance and operations with Massteck, Inc., SHL Systemhouse, and XL/Proteus Software Systems, Inc. where he was responsible for all functional areas of the companies and was the driving force behind two successful exit strategies. Mr. Webber earned his B.A. from Bates College and his M.B.A. from Babson College.

Michael Hannon – CFO

Michael Hannon has over 20 years of experience working with technology companies. He is responsible for managing all Company financial, regulatory, human resources, legal, and facilities, as well as contributing to its strategic direction. Prior to joining MagneMotion, Michael served as the Senior Director of Finance and Administration for Axiowave Networks, Inc., a telecommunication start up focused on advanced networking. Mr. Hannon also served as Corporate Controller of Nexabit Networks, Inc. and played a key role in growing the business to a successful exit. Prior to joining Nexebit Networks, Michael worked with Ascend Communication, Cascade Communication and American Science and Engineering. He earned a B.S. in finance from Boston College and a M.B.A. from Bentley College.

Jim Wieler – VP of Engineering

As vice president of engineering at MagneMotion, Jim Wieler has overall responsibility for all development efforts and manages a diverse team of electrical and mechanical engineers and technicians. Mr. Wieler brings more than 22 years of experience in program management, engineering, and engineering management to MagneMotion. Immediately preceding his present role at MagneMotion, Mr. Wieler served as Advanced Development Director at Mapletree Networks. His primary responsibilities included establishing an engineering development team, defining a repeatable engineering process, and managing product development efforts. For 16 years, Mr. Wieler served at Raytheon Company in multiple roles, continually taking on more responsibility with each new position. Mr. Wieler began his career as a research scientist at the Air Force Geophysical Laboratory at Hanscom Air Force Base, Bedford, MA. He has authored over 30 technical papers, holds two U.S. Patents and is a senior member of the IEEE. Mr. Wieler holds a B.S. in physics from the University of Massachusetts and an M.Sc. in meteorology from the University of Alberta.

Dr. Tracy Clark – VP of Technology

As vice president of technology at MagneMotion, Dr. Tracy Clark spearheads new product ideas and has overall technical responsibility for a number of projects including the Maglev initiative. Prior to co-founding MagneMotion, Dr. Clark was responsible for developing and designing core technologies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Lincoln Laboratory. Additionally, Dr. Clark held an engineering position at Hughes Aircraft Co., where he designed power converters for satellite-based systems and laboratory test fixtures. He earned his B.S., S.M., and Sc.D. in electrical engineering from MIT.

Dr. Brian Perreault – VP of Controls

As vice president of controls at MagneMotion, Dr. Brian Perreault is responsible for all control system development efforts. Dr. Perreault is one of MagneMotion's co-founders and is an expert in microprocessor-based control systems. Prior to co-founding MagneMotion, Dr. Perreault was completing his doctoral thesis work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he was a head teaching assistant. Dr. Perreault earned his B.S. in computer engineering from Boston University, and both his S.M. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT. Dr. Perreault was the recipient of a number of prestigious grants and awards during his college tenure, including the National Society of Professional Engineers Scholar, Mortar Board Outstanding Student Award, Winner of IEEE/M2C VLSI Design Contest, Member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, National Science Foundation Graduate Fellow, Eisenhower Transportation Graduate Fellow, Frederick C. Hennie III Teaching Award, and J.K Dixie Howell Outstanding Paper & Presentation Award.

Peter Mattila – VP of Sales and Marketing

Peter Mattila returned to MagneMotion in 2007 as vice president of sales and marketing, where he previously served for five years as the director of business development and helped the company establish product opportunities with leading industrial players. He leads MagneMotion’s marketing, business and customer support initiatives, which includes developing key partnerships to drive the company’s growth. Mr. Mattila has more than 25 years of experience in the electronics, electro-magnetic, and power generation industries, with a focus on motor and generator technology development. Mr. Mattila most recently headed business development activities at Northern Power Systems, concentrating on the application of permanent magnet generator technology to wind turbines. Prior to his previous tenure at MagneMotion, Mr. Mattila headed the marketing initiatives at QuadTech, Inc. Mr. Mattila also served in marketing management and research engineering roles at Kaman Electro-magnetics Corp. and EPM, Inc. Mr. Mattila holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth.

Liz Gerald - VP of Operations

As VP of operations at MagneMotion, Ms. Gerald is responsible for selecting and managing MagneMotion’s supply chain and contract manufacturers, as well as planning for internal manufacturing requirements. Ms. Gerald is also responsible for the company’s quality control and logistics. Ms. Gerald has a B.S. in business administration from Stonehill College. Prior to joining MagneMotion, Ms. Gerald held senior operations positions at Bizfon and Mapletree Networks. Prior to joining Mapletree Networks, Ms. Gerald honed her management and manufacturing skills at Compac/Microcom and Motorola/Codex, where she assumed progressively more responsible roles in manufacturing, new product introductions, and program management.
