MagneMotion Awarded Bechtel Material Handling System Contract

MagneMotion, Inc. today announced it has been awarded a contract by Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC to develop a proof of concept Remote Material Handling System incorporating MagneMotion’s QuickStick Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) and control technology.
MagneMotion’s LSM solution will be integrated with a glove box transfer cart system at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL). Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC operates INEEL for the Department of Energy. The QuickStick™ LSM and control system could enable Bechtel to decrease the likelihood of maintenance and therefore the instance of human contact with hazardous environments.
Bechtel chose MagneMotion’s LSM solution because of its unique design characteristics, its commercial availability, and its low-maintenance design. “The key to our QuickStick™ technology,” says Joe Meagher, MagneMotion’s QuickStick™ Product Manager, “is that our motor modules can reside outside of a closed environment and propel vehicles residing inside of a closed environment.”
Implementation is scheduled for October 2004. Upon successful proof-of-concept, the LSM solution may be deployed on successive iterations of the transfer cart system.
