MagneMotion receives U.S. Patent for Synchronous Machine Design and Manufacture.

Acton, Massachusetts (September 6, 2005)

MagneMotion today announced the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company a patent for its Linear Synchronous Machine Design and Manufacture. The key features of the patent include a combination of non-overlapping windings, magnet selection, omission of pole tips, and reduction in the size and number of winding slots to eliminate cogging. The result is an easy to assemble motor that has a higher performance than most contemporary designs.

“The unique winding, winding-slot, and magnet configuration embodied in this patent has become one of the key ingredients in our design and manufacture of Linear Sychronous Motors (LSMs). It represents our “best practices” from years of research and development. The benefits are enormous for our customers as it promotes a more efficient and cost-effective motor. We have standardized all of our LSM windings on this technology, ranging from our industrial QuickStick LSMs to those deployed in our LSM-based, 48,000 lbs. lift capacity Automated Weapons Elevator for the US Navy,” says Todd Webber, President and COO of MagneMotion.

MagneMotion develops and manufactures assembly automation, material handling and transportation solutions using electro-magnetic technology. The company is a proven front runner in research and development of Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) and maglev (magnetic levitation) systems. MagneMotion's clients include government agencies such as the DOT, DOE, NASA, the US Navy, and leaders in the transportation, mining, and manufacturing industries. Its commercial product line includes the QuickStick™ LSM, which serves as a highly efficient alternative to belt-based conveyor systems. The Company holds patents and has special expertise in position-sensing, communication, and control for linear synchronous motors, as well as propulsion, levitation and guidance for maglev systems.
