MagneMotion’s QuickStick™ LSM System to be Integrated into Medical Instill Technologies’ Intact™ Sterile Filling System

Acton, Massachusetts (September 23, 2005)

MagneMotion’s QuickStick™ LSM, a linear synchronous motor module, has been selected for trial as an integrated component of Medical Instill Technologies’ Intact™ filling system. Once implemented, the QuickStick will enhance Medical Instill’s filling capacity for a variety of pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and sterile processing applications.

“When selecting an actuator for our system we were looking for something that would not compromise our cleanroom environment. Ideally such a device would have a minimum of moving parts, be easily cleanable, and highly accurate. MagneMotion’s QuickStick provided us with all of those functionalities plus ‘plug and play’ capability for expanding our system,” sites Medical Instill’s Research and Development Engineer Nathaniel Houle.

MagneMotion’s QuickStick LSM system consists of meter-long linear synchronous motors that connect end-to-end within a vehicle guideway system. Using electro-magnetic force, the motors control vehicles equipped with permanent magnet arrays, moving them to pre-programmed positions along the guideway. The motors track each vehicle’s position and communicate with each other at all times. Vehicles can move bi-directionally at speeds up to 2.5 meters per second, stop at multiple stations with a repeatability of +/- 0.5 mm, and carry loads in excess of 1,000 lbs, depending on acceleration and velocity requirements.

Medical Instill Technologies, an innovator in contamination-free filling for liquid and semi-solid pharmaceutical, diagnostic and nutritional products manufactures patient-tailored drug delivery solutions using the latest technology. Founded in 1986 by Dr. Daniel Py, the company owns over 100 patents covering a wide range of products for the medical device and pharmaceutical industries, including: Pure Dose™ dispensing devices and the Intact™ sterile filling technology.
