Linear Synchronous Motors for Wheel-based Transportation
Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) technology can be adapted to propel vehicles suspended by wheels, such as conventional heavy rail, commuter rail, light rail, and monorail. MagneMotion’s sophisticated control system provides position sensing and supervisory control to move vehicles on a specified route and prevent collisions. Magnet arrays are mounted on conventional bogeys and the stators are mounted on the guideway.
Key Features and Advantages
- Decreased capital and operational costs
- No catenary or third rail
- Better control of ride quality
- Efficient acceleration and deceleration for shorter trip time
- Lower stray magnetic field than LIM
- Uses less energy than LIM or rail based systems
- Anti-collision feature of the control system allowing, safe and efficient system utilization
- Propulsion power can be optimized based on vehicle traffic and thrust requirements
- Braking does not rely on friction
